Humanity’s corporate destiny is linear. We started at some point, and we’ll end at some point. Now this does not suggest “end times,” when it is said “we’ll end at some point.” This is to suggest that we’ll achieve or end up in some completed objective. Whether we continue on beyond that is a matter of personal Faith in beliefs. Humanity’s “societal” state is not “evolutionary.” That is to say, we do not go through a continuous series of changes that result in a “higher” or “better” state than the previous ones. Rather humanity, while on its linear destiny (whatever that may be) exists in cyclical patterns. This is not necessarily humanity in its entire corporate existence. But this occurs in pockets of humanity, each grouping being at some stage of a repeating cycle while others are at different stages.
So what we see is some underlying truth and reality regarding humanity being headed toward a particular direction or purpose as a whole. Every new generation carries on in that inevitable direction whether they are aware of it or not, or are willing to accept it or not. Each individual has their own unique place in all of it, with roles being filled at different times and places to achieve a variety of things in the short term. These short term objectives are either in line with this underlying reality of destiny, or counter to it.
As man at the individual and smaller groupings of corporate life level accomplishes these short term objectives within the time line of the greater underlying destiny, man rises and falls on the cyclical “societal” spectrum. However, through out all of this rise and fall, man remains the same in his nature. Man has never changed since his formal existence (however you define that). Since man became Man, he has not changed. (*Please not, by “man” I mean this in the traditional since of the term representing “mankind,” men and women). Man’s nature leads him on the cyclical pattern, with those who are inline with the underlying destiny achieving a state of peak performance (more to it than that, but for simplicity sake, I’ll say performance), and at other times, turning away from the underlying destiny to fall into disorder and chaos.
The more that things change, the more we must depend on those things that never change. Human nature never changes. This does not mean we follow human nature to its natural ends. This means that we must know those never changing natures of man, and use them for achieving a greater purpose. We must know that man will always do A given situation 1, and if the outcome of action A is a positive result, then we should seek to maintain and support that action’s natural occurrence given situation 1 whenever it pops up. However, is in situation 2, man always does action B, and it always ends in disaster, or something negative, then we know that we must prevent that situation from arising, so that action B won’t even be an option.
The problems we face today are nothing new. Man will continue to go through cycles of prosperity and failure, both individually and corporately, both in pockets of humanity and in humanity as a whole. However, we can stop this cycle if we know the situations that arise and what man’s usually actions are, seeking to prevent the situations that result in negative actions from coming about, while promoting those situations that result in positive actions. At any point in the cycle, most importantly during the fall portion, man can realize that he is in the fall, and can choose to change his situation and his actions to go back on the rise. But if man continues to disregard the lessons of the past, (that is, the discovery of the underlying truth and destiny and allows it to be achieved) and fail to realize when he is in the fall, the cycle will continue.
However, what can be said, is that as mankind goes through the cycle, he does learn. As time goes on, until such period as a great “reset button” is hit, where all the knowledge of the past is lost, and man starts at the beginning again, man will continue to get better at preventing the negative. Again, this is not social “evolution,” this is simply recognizing patterns of corporate behavior that are repeated over and over again. The issue at hand is trying to keep the negative cycles of human behavior at the individual and local level, not at the greater corporate or even global level. This way, at least one greater majority of the population is permitted to carry out the prosperous path, while those who remain on the same old negative paths have minimal impact on the rest of mankind.
The question then becomes, what is the underlying reality? What is that greater underlying destiny that man is on, completely oblivious to the little petty futures of the individual and smaller groups, and to the global body of man? What is the path that man is on, the direction he is going, and moving further down every time a majority peaks in performance? That is where worldview come into play. That is where the pursuit of truth comes into play. Mankind is heading in a particular direction that becomes clear at certain moments when that end result becomes revealed to us with clarity. Every time mankind lives according to principles that suppress the negative situations and actions and promotes the positive situations and actions, we get a little closer to that end. So what is that end? What Worldview has the answer to that? What belief system provides the answers, and more importantly, the application that promotes the underlying truth? Do we accept it if we come to know it?
It does not matter who says “Well, for me….” as that simply disregards the reality. This is not a matter of relativism, as this underlying truth is not dependent on man, and truth itself is not dependent on man. Truth is separate and apart from man. We do not control it, but we do control its dissemination and proliferation, which is said in and of itself. However, the truth was made to be known. It is inherent in all of us, down to the fiber of our being. We can all here its call, and in the analysis of all things that matter, it rings out more clearly than the loudest and most beautiful of church bells. The underlying reality is that there is a God, he created all things, and it is from Him that all things have come, and it is to him that all things are going. He has revealed the truth to mankind, and has sent him who has set the path clear for all of us, his only begotten Son. The connection to that destiny has been laid in each of us through the Holy Spirit, and we can all feel the truth tugging on us, if only we would ask and listen. He has provided for us the situations and actions to promote to spread the way to humanity’s peak performance in Him, and has told us those situations and actions that prevent us from achieving His design for us. It is through his grace that we have this, and it is through the salvation brought by Jesus on the Cross and his death and resurrection that we can achieve it. This we can not do on our own, but only through absolute reliance on divine providence that we we can achieve it.
